Longacres Samara Fly (Eric) 2006 - 2018

IT IS WITH GREAT SADNESS THAT WE ANNOUNCE THE PASSING OF OUR STALLION SAMARA FLY

Samara Fly stood as Longacres Stud’s premiere stallion from 2008 to 2018. In that time he sire around 150 top quality foals, whilst also competing at the highest levels in dressage, and proved himself beyond any doubt as a truly exceptional stallion. His trainer Michael Eilberg said of him “This young horse is a Grand Prix prospect of the future, with so much upward movement, the like I have never seen in a coloured horse”.

He was THE coloured stallion to watch until his untimely passing from a complication following a routine veterinary procedure. Early in his career, he and young rider Alex Ingoe Topham, competed successfully at Medium/Advanced Medium Dressage and qualified for both the BD Summer Regionals + the Hickstead International Young Dressage Horse Finals. Later with talented young rider Hannah Doggett he went on to be crowned North West Area PSG champion and competed successfully at Grand Prix Level.

Dual-Purpose Coloured Stallion Samara Fly

Samara Fly offspring all inherit his exceptional temperament, presence and fantastic movement. His youngstock owners report they are “a joy to train”, many of which are already out competing with great success in dressage, jumping, and championship level in the showring at major County Shows and at the Futurity. Proven as a Grand Prix Dressage stallion, Samara Fly also had a fantastic Jump, making him a super dual-purpose sire. In fact in 2017 one of his sons qualified for the BEF Equine Bridge as a potential showjumper capable of competing at national / international level with a score of 9/10 for his jump.

A Tribute To Samara Fly

At the young age of only 11 years Samara Fly (aka Eric) was taken from this world far too soon. This absolute superstar was the pride and joy of Longacres Stud where he found his forever home as a raw 2-year old. He certainly fulfilled their hopes and dreams aspiring to almost the highest level in Dressage. He started his career with great success at the Badminton Young Horse classes. He progressed rapidly up the levels being thought of as the first GP coloured stallion in the UK. With over 150 youngsters on the ground we can be sure his legacy will live on.

Owner Mandy Sanderson said “I can at this moment say I’m so privileged to have owned and produced such a gentleman of the horse world … I will, I can tell you, never recover from my devastating loss of him”. Mandy also made mention of Sally from Brackenspa Stud who bred him, Alex Ingoe Topham who campaigned him as a young horse, and Hannah Doggett who took him to the great heights he was always destined for; and to CHAPS, the AES and ZfdP who all recognised his amazing talents – further saying “I can never replace you Young Man. Always in my thoughts xx”.
